HOP0186 ---------------------------------------------------------- PS - XRT/Hinode: An observing campaign of quiescent prominenences for autumn this year to study quiescent prominences and their cavities when observed in X-rays, EUV, green coronal line and H_alpha (observed both with spectrograph and telescope equipped with tunable Lyot filter). Our aim is to compare cavities when observed in X-rays and green coronal line and to test whether X-ray data could be substituted by green-coronal-line data in estimation of the mass loading of quiescent prominences. Observations will be carried between September the 15th and end of October on two multi-camera spectrographs at the Ondrejov observatory (https://www.asu.cas.cz/~sos/hsfa2.html and https://www.asu.cas.cz/~sos/mfs.html) and on COMP-S instrument (in H_alpha and the green coronal line) mounted on coronograph at the Lomnicky Peak observatory (http://www.astro.sk/LSO/COMP-S) and on XRT (if it's possible). I would like to ask whether our HOP0186 could be run between 6 and 12 UT from September 15th through the end of October. Thank you very much. Pavol Schwartz Astronomical Institute Academy of Science of the Czech Republic & Astronomical Institute Slovak Academy of Sciences XRT/Hinode answer: Dear Pavol, The Hinode SSC has accepted your request to run HOP 186 between September 15 and the end of October. Please note though, that in the case of a Major Flarewatch, Hinode often suspends HOPs in order to observe the flaring active region. Best regards, Kathy --------------------------------------------------------------------------- CDS: Dear Dr. Fludra, following your e-mail from February 27, 2012, we would like to ask you for the SoHO/CDS support of our observing campaign which will be organised in the period between September 15 and October 30 (we understand that the continuous support from September 15 till October 30 will be probably not possible, but we will be grateful for any period of possible CDS support). Motivation for our observing campaign. Quiescent solar prominences and their cavities will be observed during an observing campaign between 15 September through end of October 2012 in H-alpha, CaII H, the infrared Ca line, green coronal line, white light and soft X-rays. Observations will be performed by two ground-based and one space-born instruments (all involved instruments already confirmed their support): - the HSFA2 spectrograph at Ondrejov Observatory, Czech Republic - the COMP-S instrument equipped with tunable Lyot filter mounted on coronograph at the Lomnicky Peak Observatory, Slovakia - the XRT X-ray telescope on-board of the Hinode satellite. (Complementary EUV observations of the SDO/AIA instrument are to be added.) Our main scientific goal is comparison of the multi-wavelength observations of the prominence cavities when observed in EUV coronal lines (SDO/AIA plus SoHO/CDS), white light (continuum close to H-alpha from COMP-S), green coronal line (both COMP-S) and X-rays (XRT). For the CDS runs within our campaign we would like to use already existing observing program ARCONT_1 which is originally part of the JOP 178 - "Filament, Prominence and Cavity campaign" (here we want to note that this observing program is very suitable for us as the member of our observing team - Pavol Schwartz, is also member of the JOP 178 team and therefore he already knows possibilities of the data acquired with this program). Observing program ARCONT_1 provides rasters with the FoV of 244"x240" in the following spectral lines: Si XII 521 A, O IV 554 A, Ca X 558 A, Fe XIX 593 A, Mg X 625 A and O V 629 A. Our plan is to run this program several times but on different positions on the limb to cover all (or as many as possible) strong prominences visible in particular day. In the case that our request for the CDS support will be granted we would like to ask some technical details. Especially, until when we should send you the pointing. Important for us is also timing of the CDS observations. As we will observe also with the ground based telescopes we prefer to start the CDS measurements at ~5UT as the seeing conditions on our observatories are the best in the morning. With best wishes and many thanks, Peter Gomory and Pavol Schwartz. Dear Peter, We have resumed CDS operations. I have forwarded your request to Barry Kellett and John Rainnie who are CDS planners (their e-mails are in the header of this message). We will be uploading a 4-day plan on Monday, and observations will start from Tuesday. Note the next upload will then be on Friday, so we would need to know the pointing for each day from Tuesday until Friday inclusive. Can you send the details (pointing, description of target) by Monday morning, ideally before 10:00am UK time (11:00am European). Please e-mail cdsplanner@solar.bnsc.rl.ac.uk and copy to Barry and John. Best regards, Andrzej
