The emergence of a neutral wind region in the orbital plane
of symbiotic binaries during their outbursts

ABSTRAKT / ABSTRACT :

Accreting white dwarfs in symbiotic binaries undergo occasional
outbursts, during which the white dwarf brightens by several
magnitudes, produces a low- and high-velocity mass-outflow, and,
in some cases, ejects bipolar jets. I recently completed a study
that reveals a new unexpected phenomenon during outbursts - the
transient emergence of a neutral region in the orbital plane
consisting of wind from the giant. At the seminar, I will try to
explain how I discovered this effect based on the analysis of more
than 30-year-old spectra from the archive of the IUE satellite.
