The presented work was carried out in collaboration with Italian and Czech teams of astronomers, focusing on improving meteor measurements, whose accuracy and reliable determination of their uncertainties strongly influence the results derived from the data.
Using a sophisticated visualization that simultaneously presents measured meteor data and the resulting meteoroid orbit, we developed an estimator that quantifies the slope of the relative decrease of the hyperbolic fraction with increasing confidence levels. This approach enables the detection of commonly underestimated measurement errors in any database. The estimator aids database authors by improving data-reduction procedures and helps users select database based on accuracy requirements.
The proposed name for the introduced tool is the Kresáks’ diagram, in honour of the authors (Ľ. Kresák and M. Kresáková) of the original representation, which we applied to hyperbolic data and extended to quantify errors in orbital parameters
