Description: In 2019, the classical nova V1047 Cen (Nova Centauri 2005) underwent a mysterious, more than 400-day-long explosion, the nature of which was not clarified, and therefore designated as a new type of stellar explosion in cataclysmic variable stars (CVs – interacting binaries with an orbital period of several hours). In our study, we demonstrated that the 2019 explosion of V1047 Cen is of the “Z And” type – a characteristic type that has been observed exclusively in symbiotic stars (SySt – interacting binaries with orbital periods of several years). We proved our claim by modeling the spectral energy distribution in the near-ultraviolet to near-infrared (see the figure). We have shown that after a classical nova explosion, a "Z And" type explosion can occur not only in SySt but also in CVs, when the accretion-powered system changes to a nuclear-powered system due to the reaction of the donor to the nova explosion. This result thus challenged the typical behavior of CVs after a nova explosion and suggested a new path of stellar evolution that terminates with a Type Ia supernova explosion.
