Jan Rybak News - July 2006 : Excursion of journalists from the journal .tyzden

Thanks to interest of two journalists from the journal .tyzden - Mr. Stefan Hrib and Dr. Martin Mojzis - I and my colleagues from the institute (being on duty at the observatory) have guided an excursion of these journalists at the Skalnate Pleso Observatory on July 22-23, 2006.

Fortunately, weather was very good during the night. So we were able not only to answer a lot of questions given by Mr. Stefan Hrib, who is also moderator of the well-known TV program Pod lampou of the STV television, but also to shown some celestial objects using our small telescopes specially appropriate for public excursions (Jupiter and its four moons, M31 galaxy in constellation of Andromeda,..). Additionally we have shown how real professional astronomical observations of variable stars (HR 6611) and asteroids (Swann) are performed.

For me personally it was a great pleasure to be a member of the ad-hoc team guiding the excursion, to have my family with me, to have at the observatory both journalists, and additionally Dr. Mojzis is also my schoolmate and teacher of some colleagues - members of the observatory staff.

Some pictures will appear here also in the near future (I still use my old film camera and to make 36 exposures takes some time...)
