3 future meetings that our COST Action will organize : 1. Polarimetry of planetary systems - Florence - 23-26 September 2013. 2. Support to organize a workshop on Polarimetric Techniques & Technology in Leiden in 2014. 3. Spectropolarimetric experiments for remote sensing - Helsinki - 19-21 August 2013 (reminder) ************************************************************************************************************************** 1. *Polarimetry of planetary systems - Florence - 23-26 September 2013.* Description: Polarimetric techcniques are routinely exploited to study the surface structure of the atmosphere-less bodies of our solar ystem, the atmospheres of Venus, Earth, and of the giant planets. More recently, polarimetry has gained popularity as a potential tool for the study of exo-solar planets. This workshop will be an opportunity to strengthen the community of astronomers interested in polarimetry of the objects of our and other solar systems, and to discuss what are the open questions that can be addressed by polarimetry. This workshop will be also an opportunity to coordinate future projects. Website : http://www.polarisation.eu/index.php/meetings/polarimetry-planetary-systems The workshop will be strictly limited to 40 participants. Since there will be cycling world championship in Florence during that week, pressure could be very high on hotels booking, so we blocked a number of rooms in two hotels (see our website). However, since the number of participants will be limited, please do not book your room before we send you a confirmation e-mail with acceptance of your participation. Hotel rooms will be blocked until *June 15* and we will send confirmations on*June 5 *so you will have 10 days to book your room. Of course you can stay in another hotel. Registration, abstract submission, funding request: Due to this practical problem, deadline for registration, abstract submission and funding request must be very early : *31 May* ! So in about 3 weeks. Funding request will be available for about 12-15 participants. If you want to apply, just select the option when registering. You must be a member of an institution in a country which has signed our MoU (see list on our website : http://www.polarisation.eu/index.php/participating-countries) http://www.polarisation.eu/index.php/meetings/polarimetry-planetary-systems/registration-florence If you have any question, please contact me or Stefano Bagnulo (sba@arm.ac.uk). ************************************************************************************************************************** 2. *Support to organize a workshop on Polarimetric Techniques & Technology in Leiden in 2014.* Dear colleague, Early 2014 we plan to organize a workshop on Polarimetric Techniques & Technology. We will bring together polarimetrists from a wide range of scientific backgrounds. From astronomy to biomedical applications, from remote sensing of the atmosphere to military applications, and beyond. And from academia to industry. The goal is that we all learn from each other how to build better polarimeters. This will therefore be a true workshop with interactive sessions. To secure a time-slot at the excellent workshop facilities in Leiden, the Netherlands ( www.lorentzcenter.nl ), we need to submit a list of researchers who express their interest to participate. If you are interested in this workshop, please send an email directly to Frans Snik ( snik@strw.leidenuniv.nl ). thank you very much on behalf of the co-organizers, Frans Snik, Leiden Observatory, the Netherlands Michael Escuti, North Carolina State University, USA Silvano Fineschi, INAF - Osservatorio Astrofisico di Torino, Italy David Harrington, University of Hawaii, USA Antonello de Martino, École Polytechnique Paris, France Dimitri Mawet, European Southern Observatory, Chile Jérôme Riedi, Laboratoire d'Optique Atmosphérique, Lille, France Scott Tyo, College of Optical Sciences, Univ. of Arizona, Tucson, USA ************************************************************************************************************************** 3. *Spectropolarimetric experiments for remote sensing - Helsinki - 19-21 August 2013 (reminder)* Quick reminder about our meeting in Helsinki in August for which deadlines are approaching quickly: http://www.polarisation.eu/index.php/meetings/spectropolarimetricexperiments Important dates for the meeting "Spectropolarimetric experiments for remote sensing" in Helsinki. 1. Deadline for funding request :31 May 2. Abstract submission opens : 19 April 3. Abstract submission closes :31 May 4. Confirmation of accepted abstracts & financial support decision : 14 June 5.
