Here is a list of recommended book for the lecture course. It would be great if you could borrow at least 1 or 2 of them and skim through them before the course starts. I think it will help to understand the lectures much better. They are all English language books but there are probably equivalent German or other language books available; have a look at them also. The list is of books on spectroscopy and general solar physics.
Spectroscopy books
Atomic Spectra and Atomic Structure G. Herzberg (trans. Spinks), Dover publications, 1945.
Atomic Spectra H. G. Kuhn (2nd ed., Longman), 1971.
Astronomical Spectroscopy J Tennyson, 1999. Imperial College Press.
Ultraviolet and X-ray Spectroscopy of the Solar Atmosphere K. J. H. Phillips, U. Feldman, E. Landi, Cambridge Univ. Press, 2008.
