PREDNASAJUCI / LECTURER: dr. Rolf Schlichenmaier Leibniz-Institut für Sonnenphysik (KIS) NAZOV / TITLE: Sunspots and EST ABSTRAKT / ABSTRACT: I will report on work on sunspot physics that is ongoing at KIS. Sunspot stability seems intimately coupled with the existence of the sunspot penumbra. Therefore, the penumbral structure, and the fundamental magnetoconvective processes that lead to its formation and decay are essential for our understanding of sunspots. Hitherto, ‘realistic’ models of sunspots do not exist. In the second part of my talk, I summarize the concept of the European Solar Telescope (EST).
