PREDNASAJUCI / LECTURER : Univ.-Prof. Dr.phil Arnold Hanslmeier NAZOV / TITLE : Gravitational lensing - a tool for detecting matter ABSTRAKT / ABSTRACT : General relativity theory predicts a curvature of space time. This depends on the distribution of mass and therefore by measuring the deflection of light we can get information about the distribution of mass. In the first part of this seminar an overview on the basic principles based on Einstein’s field equations is done then we present the cases of strong lensing, weak lensing and microlensing. Finally we give examples of own observations made at the observatory del Teide ( 1m Francisco Sanchez Telescope) and Roque de los Muchachos (4.2 m W. Herschel and 10.4 m GranTECAN) of Quasar observations revealing strong lensing as well as microlensing and show especially how microlensing can be used as a diagnostics tool for the lensing galaxy cluster and the accretion disc of the Quasar behind.
