Due to the current proliferation of interesting results, far from being crystallized into a coherent picture, we adopt a historical perspective. This clearly shows that these revolutionary ideas have emerged from the possibility of articulating the knowledge provided by string theory in the new language of Quantum Information. A particular emphasis is devoted to the issue of how this language combined with finite geometric structures provides some interesting insight into this exciting field.
